Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Requirement:

Requirement: Your health insurance is an important part of your success at Belmont. Whether you already have coverage through another source, or you are considering Belmont's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), we encourage you to take time to evaluate your options before deciding.

Review. Compare. Decide.

Every full-time, degree-seeking student is required to maintain health insurance coverage while enrolled at Belmont. Before the deadline, take a few moments to:

Review your current health insurance plan.
•Is your coverage active while attending school?
•Can you easily access doctors, hospitals, specialists, and mental health providers in the Nashville area?
•Does your plan provide affordable access to the care you may need while away from home?

Compare your current plan to Belmont's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
•Consider provider networks, out-of-pocket costs, prescription coverage, mental health benefits, and access to care where you will be living and studying.
•Review the benefits and costs of each option to determine which best meets your healthcare needs.

Decide which option is right for you.
•If your current coverage meets Belmont's requirements, you may submit a waiver request.
•If you need coverage or determine that SHIP is the better option for your circumstances, you may enroll in Belmont's Student Health Insurance Plan.

Important Dates:
•Waiver Period Opens: November 1, 2026
•Waiver Deadline: December 6, 2026
•Coverage Effective Date: January 1, 2027

What Happens If No Action Is Taken?
Students who do not complete the waiver process by the published deadline will be automatically billed to their student account for Spring 2026-2027 coverage on December 6, 2026. Then auto enrolled by January 13, 2027, in Belmont's Student Health Insurance Plan.

Why Students Choose SHIP
The Belmont Student Health Insurance Plan is designed specifically for students and provides coverage while living and learning in the Nashville area. Benefits include access to medical care, mental health services, emergency care, preventive services, and prescription drug coverage.

Need Help Determining Your Best Option?
We understand that choosing health insurance can feel overwhelming, especially if this is your first time making healthcare decisions on your own. Our team is available to answer questions about waiver requirements, enrollment options, deadlines, and plan information so you can make an informed decision.

If you have any questions, please contact the Belmont Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Support Center at (866) 233-4512 or email us at studentinsurance@belmont.edu .
