STEP Grant Tennessee

In This Section

Belmont University’s Jack C. Massey College of Business has had a focus on international business and free enterprise for several decades. In fact, the College was awarded a federal Business & International Education 2-year grant in 2009 from the U.S. Department of Education to internationalize the College.

Two Massey engagement centers are particularly focused on international business – the Thomas W. Beasley Center for Free Enterprise and the Center for Global Citizenship. These two centers provide support the programming of the Tennessee Export Initiative.

Thomas W. Beasley Center for Free Enterprise

The Thomas W. Beasley Center for Free Enterprise is a learning center committed to exploring and providing education and programming about the impact of free enterprise in American Society. Founded in 2018, the Center is founded on the following beliefs:

  • Competition and free markets, secured by private property, powered by innovation and entrepreneurship, supported by measured government intervention, regulation and taxation that results in economic and financial freedom.
  • Better life and opportunities for all through an economic system that offers the promise of prosperity, both individually and collectively.
  • Individual and social responsibility that show the benefits of private ownership and for-profit business, and that demonstrate how management can achieve increased levels of profitability while simultaneously enhancing contribution to the environment, social and governance practices.
  • Character with purpose, including Belmont’s focus on equipping students to fulfill their Christian calling of creating abundant lives for themselves and others.
  • Economic freedom and human flourishing that create a mindset and ecosystem of abundance while servicing others in beneficial ways.

Center for Global Citizenship

The Center for Global Citizenship (CGC) prepares students and the Nashville-area business community to make the world a better place through purpose, character and a transformational mindset. The main role of the CGC is to cultivate global mindset across the Belmont community and promote a sense of civic responsibility to the world as a whole, rather than just a local community. Global mindset is a lifelong human pursuit of openness, humility and respect for other cultures and perspectives. By expanding one’s personal horizons we become better equipped to solve world’s complex problems in a more meaningful way. Global citizens have the responsibility to adopt lifestyles and values that reflect our commitment to building a sustainable planet and demonstrate respect for the world’s cultural diversity.
