Driver Safety Policy

Anyone who is driving on behalf of Belmont University or business related to the university will need to complete and sign the Driver Safety Policy. Send the signed policy, a copy of your driver's license and an auto insurance card to riskmanagement@belmont.edu. Once we receive the documents, you will soon receive an email from our Motor Vehicle Report vendor, which includes a weblink to complete the MVR request. The weblink expires in 5 days, so complete the MVR as soon as possible. Once you submit the request and we receive the report, we will send you an email with the approval decision.

Van Driver Policy

If you will be driving a 12-passenger van, box truck, cargo van, or similar cargo vehicle, you must complete an online driver safety training. This training will be provided by the university, and it is valid for three years once completed. You can access the training through these Driving Safety Course Instructions using branch code 1038-90963. Once you have completed the course, notify Risk Management at riskmanagement@belmont.edu. This excludes 15-passenger vans, as they are not included under the Belmont University insurance coverage.

You will need to become an approved driver. No rental insurance is needed. Insurance is covered for rented vehicles used for Belmont University-related travel, and Belmont's insurance is considered primary in these situations.  The only exception is for 15-passenger vans.  Fifteen (15) passenger vans are excluded from Belmont’s insurance coverage.  The driver will assume all liability with a 15-passenger van rental.

You do not need to purchase the offered insurance for a vehicle rented for Belmont University-related travel.  Insurance is covered for all rented vehicles in the US for Belmont University-related travel.  You should only purchase rental insurance when renting internationally.

If you are student and need more information about driving for university-related business and requesting Motor Vehicle Records, review the Student Guide for Motor Vehicle Records and Certificates of Insurance.
