Memberships

Fitness & Recreation

For the safety and security of the members of the Belmont community, the fitness center is an access-controlled facility.  Fees for students are included in their tuition and Faculty/Staff access is included in their benefit package through Human Resources.  Student/faculty/staff spouses, dependents (ages 16+) and alumni may apply for membership and pay the designated fees.  Once university affiliation and status has been confirmed, applicants may obtain a Belmont ID from the Office of Campus Security and begin using the fitness center.  Access to the brand-new tennis center will be included in all FitRec memberships.

In consideration of the privilege of participating in, or registering for, Fitness & Recreation activities, I acknowledge the existence of risks in connection with these activities. I assume such risks and agree to accept the responsibility for any injuries sustained during the use of the facilities and/or equipment. In addition, participation releases Belmont University, its officers, trustees, employees, students, and agents from any liability for claims arising out of the use of anything connected with the facility or its activities. This includes exercise equipment, participation in supervised and unsupervised activities in the fitness center, in other individual or group exercise activities; and accidents occurring in the locker rooms and shower facilities of the center.

I understand that I should have a thorough physical examination by a physician before attempting any strenuous physical activity and I agree to stay within my physical limits while participating in the center’s activities. I recognize that possible injuries which may arise out of participation in the center’s activities include, but are not limited to, potentially fatal injuries such as heart attacks, stroke, and heat stress, as well as other injuries such as back injuries, broken bones, torn ligaments, etc. I release Belmont University from liability for such injuries regardless of whether damage or loss is caused by any negligent act or failure to act of the university or otherwise.

Belmont University reserves the right to restrict use of the Beaman Center Fitness & Recreation area in instances where the guest member has a history of health problems that would render the guest member unqualified to participate in certain aspects of the center’s programs and activities. All decisions concerning restricted use will be made by the university after consultation with the member’s physician.

I further acknowledge the existence of any need for certain rules concerning the use of equipment, facilities, and other procedures related to the Fitness & Recreation areas. I agree to abide by those rules and to make every individual effort to ensure that the equipment and facilities are kept in a safe and usable condition.

Having read the preceding, I acknowledge an understanding of those risks set forth and knowingly agrees full responsibility for any exposure to such risks.

FitRec members can access the fitness center through a staffed entrance by using the Belmont issued identification card or by using the FitRec On The Go application.  Students gaining access by any other means outside of the ones mentioned are subject to the appropriate disciplinary actions including, but not limited to, suspension of FitRec access and/or referral to the Community Accountability office.

 Unauthorized Facility Access

From the Bruin Guide on page 73

In the interest of student safety as well as successful living and learning, students are expected to not physically enter non-public areas of the University without first receiving the appropriate permission(s) that grants access. Permission may be given in many forms, such as actual permission from the person that controls the area, card access, etc. Further, students are expected to refrain from allowing objects under their control to enter such areas or assisting others without permission to enter such areas. This includes entering or attempting to enter University facilities where the physical environment presents itself to be locked, closed or restricted (i.e. lights off, after class hours, etc.). Non-public areas include residence halls, residence hall rooms, construction areas, athletic playing surfaces, staff or faculty offices, card-restricted rooms/areas, rooftops, balconies, etc.

  1. The fitness center is a controlled access facility.  No one will be permitted beyond the access control area without a valid Belmont ID or guest pass without prior approval from the Directors.
  2. All members must present proper Belmont ID to gain access to the fitness center.  Misrepresenting yourself as a fitness center member, Belmont student, staff or faculty member is a violation of Belmont University Code of Conduct and any person not adhering to this policy will not be allowed to enter the fitness center.  Any member of the Belmont community that violates this policy may be reported to the Director of Community Responsibility for further action.
  3. Fitness center members will not be allowed to enter the facility without their BU ID. If a member forgets their ID Card, they can download the FitRec On The Go App and utilize a unique barcode to access the facility.
  4. The safety of all participants who use the facility is our highest priority.  When using the Fitness Center, please consider your own health history, seek counsel from your health provider, and use sound judgment when choosing exercises options and intensity.  Individual patrons utilize all recreational facilities at their own risk.
