Belmont Summer Vocal Arts Intensive

June 22-28, 2025

The Belmont Summer Vocal Arts Intensive is a week-long immersive experience in solo and choral singing in a variety of styles. Students entering grades 9-12 will engage in rehearsals, masterclasses, and performances with the outstanding artistic faculty at Belmont University. The Summer Vocal Arts Intensive provides a unique opportunity to experience high level artistry in both classical and commercial singing. This residential camp takes place on Belmont University’s beautiful campus in downtown Nashville, TN.

Daily Schedule:

Each day, students will participate in mass choir rehearsals, music theory instruction, electives, small ensembles, master classes, and social experiences. The mass choir will rehearse and perform a final concert of traditional and contemporary choral music. Small ensemble opportunities include Chamber Choir, Jazz Choir, Pop/Rock Ensemble, and Musical Theatre Ensemble. Master classes will provide solo vocal lessons in a group setting – choose from classical, commercial, integrative (both classical and commercial), and musical theatre tracks. Elective classes will offer opportunities to explore Choral Conducting, Artist Development, Vocal Health and Technique, Song Writing, Dance, and more. Evening activities include a mix of social activities and recitals (faculty and campers).

Housing & Meals:

Students will be housed in Belmont University dormitories. Roommates will be assigned randomly by gender unless roommate requests are indicated on the registration form.  While in the dormitories, participants will be under the careful supervision of the camp staff, and security will be a priority. Masterclasses

Every participant in the Belmont Summer Vocal Arts Intensive will participate in a genre-specific masterclass. The masterclass will be made up of 12 students who will each sing a prepared solo for the instructor and receive feedback. The masterclass functions as a public voice lesson, where both the individual singer and the other members of class can benefit from the feedback. Each student should prepare two solos, preferably memorized, for the masterclass.

Ensembles

Each participant of the Belmont Summer Vocal Arts Intensive will be assigned to a small ensemble. We will assign participants based on student preference, video audition, and ensemble needs. We will have the following ensemble genres available this year:

  • Chamber Singers - this ensemble will perform music from the traditional choral repertoire as appropriate for small ensembles. This is a more classically geared ensemble that will use tuning forks rather than piano for rehearsal. Repertoire will be unaccompanied.
  • Musical Theatre - this ensemble will perform selections from classical and contemporary musicals. Some choreography may be implemented, and the repertoire will be accompanied.
  • Pop / Rock / Country - this ensemble performs selections by current contemporary artists in the genres of pop, rock, or country music. Repertoire will be accompanied.
  • Vocal Jazz - this ensemble will perform selections from the American Songbook or jazz arrangements of contemporary songs. Singers may also experiment with vocal improvisation, or scat singing. Selections may be accompanied or unaccompanied.
