Over the last twenty years, the motto of the Belmont University School of Physical Therapy has been “Our students and our graduates are our credentials.”  Our staff, faculty, and students work together to make this phrase a distinguishing trait of our program. While the rigorous curriculum, built on the medical model, challenges students academically, the program provides the support necessary for students to succeed. We strive to create an “extended family environment” while maintaining professional relationships. With open classrooms and laboratories, our state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technologies support research and teaching.  The faculty are outstanding educators who maintain contemporary clinical expertise and are dedicated to molding excellent clinicians. Our goal is to prepare physical therapists who are compassionate providers, transformational leaders, and evidence-based clinicians committed to life-long learning, critical thinking, and inter-professional collaboration.

Mission

The School of Physical Therapy mission is to prepare physical therapists to provide excellent, compassionate care through evidence-based, autonomous practice.

Graduates will be:

  • practitioners of choice in the movement sciences
  • prepared to assume leadership roles
  • engaged in lifelong learning
  • actively involved in the profession and community service

Values

We seek to prepare graduates to function as primary health care providers for persons with movement disorders and to maximize the physical and psychological potential of individuals and groups by demonstrating and instructing health promotion strategies.

In order to competently assess and provide intervention for patients, we believe graduates require an in-depth knowledge of the basic and applied sciences, effective critical thinking skills, and the ability to intellectually bridge theory with practice. Integration of the psychosocial, cultural and ethical elements of patient care is also essential, as is compassion, communication and professional behavior.

We aim to create an educational environment that is intellectually challenging, offers unique opportunities for learning and collaboration, and stimulates life-long learning and active involvement in the profession and community.
