Your student organization can apply for a grant petition by completing a short online application on BruinLink. Before you apply, make sure to read the Grant Petition Guidelines and SGA Finance Budget Guidelines for more information regarding SGA funding for your student organization. you should plan attend a finance committee meeting to discuss your petition.
Important: Funding is prioritized towards campus involvement and interaction - impacting the greatest amount of students possible. There will be very limited funding granted for petitions that do not benefit the broader Belmont community.
FIRST STEPS - BEFORE THE COMMITTEE MEETING:
- Complete this Advisor Letter with your Faculty/Staff advisor before coming to the Finance Committee meeting. You will be asked to upload the Advisor Letter with your request on BruinLink.
- Fill out the Budget Template. Use this template as a guide to show an itemized list of how your organization plans to use the requested SGA funding.
- Apply on BruinLink! Student Leaders with managing abilities on your organization's page on BruinLink have access to the request application. Click your organization's icon on the left side of the page to open the organization tools menu- choose finance- on the top left choose create a request- and choose funding request- fill out all the required information and submit it to be reviewed.
- You will be in contact with the SGA Treasurer by email throughout this process, and will be given information of what to expect leading up the committee meeting.
NEXT STEPS - THE COMMITTEE MEETING AND BEYOND:
- Come to the Finance Committee meeting. The SGA Treasurer will send you information to schedule a time for you to attend a Finance Committee meeting. You can either come yourself, or send a representative of your organization to the meeting.
- Present your petition. Don’t be nervous about the word “present”. All we ask is for five-ten minutes discussing your petition. The meeting is casual, so there is no requirement to dress up.
- Answer some questions. The committee members may have a few questions about your petition. You don’t have to be worried - we are not here to interrogate you, we just want to know a bit more.
- You are almost done! The SGA Treasurer will email you any funding decisions decided by the committee. If your petition is funded, you will need to submit a purchase request in BruinLink to use your funding.
- Keep all receipts/invoices. All receipts must be submitted on BruinLink in the purchase request. If this proof of spending does not equal the total of the grant given by SGA by your funding deadline, all remaining funds will be returned to SGA.
