Academic Programs

Academic Programs

An academic program is defined as a program of study with its own distinct set of intended student learning outcomes. At Belmont University each college determines the level at this those reporting units are defined, whether degree, major or even sometimes emphasis depending on the discipline.

The learning outcomes created by the academic programs of the university provide the backbone of academic assessment. These programs report on all outcomes over a three-year cycle. While the curricular process can be quite complex, the reporting cycle sticks to the basics:

  • Learning outcomes measured by student performance
  • Student performance considered by faculty, reflecting on potential improvements
  • Curricular change documented in real time
