Biography
James Cody is an award-winning composer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, mixing engineer, and music producer from Birmingham, Alabama. His songwriting, composition, and production work span a wide range of styles, including rock, pop, country, cinematic, electropop, tension, and uplifting/ inspirational music.
James holds a Master of Science in Audio Engineering from Belmont University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Technology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As a musician and performer, James received an Outstanding Student Certificate in recognition of his accomplishments in the UAB Guitar Ensemble in 2013 and was recognized as the Outstanding Undergraduate Student in the UAB Department of Music in 2015. He was also awarded Music Technology scholarships and selected to receive a Stevie Wonder Music Scholarship. During a UAB Department of Music Computer Music Ensemble performance, James’ skills as a guitarist caught the attention of Dr. Henry Panion, III. Panion subsequently invited James to perform as a session guitarist on his arrangement and production of Stevie Wonder’s “Heaven Help Us All.”
James was selected as a Media Fellow with UAB Digital Media, where he worked on documentary-style videos and digital advertising campaigns. During his fellowship, James composed the original soundtrack “Rise” for the “Choose to Be On: TRIO Academic Services at UAB” promotional video. His composition was recognized with a Student Silver ADDY Award in the Music category at the 2015 Birmingham American Advertising Awards.
An audiophile and software enthusiast, James has also contributed to Premier Guitar magazine, co-authoring and authoring articles covering digital audio effects processors and guitar amplifier modeling plugins.
As a composer and producer, James has signed multiple publishing deals, and his music has been synced for film and television, including placements on the Discovery Channel, CNN, and Netflix, as well as television placements in Japan and Germany.
