Biography

Frecia Gonzalez, DrPH, MPH, began her time at Belmont University in the Summer of 2024 as a Faculty Fellow in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the Public Health Department.

Dr. Gonzalez is a passionate public health professional dedicated to prevention, health education and health equity. She has conducted extensive research of varying subjects within her field, such as substance use prevention, food insecurity, health policy, and built environment. Dr. Gonzalez has over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector where she has served in several roles ranging from data analyst to regional director where she led public health programs in two different counties. During her tenure in the field, Dr. Gonzalez served five years as Chair of the Applied Data and Research Workgroup, a collaborative under the Department of Behavioral Health in San Bernardino County, California.

Previously to joining Belmont University, Dr. Gonzalez served as a lecturer at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA, where she inspired students to explore the intersection of liberal studies and public health research. Her goal as she continues on the path of an educator is to prepare the next generation of professionals to address health disparities and promote well-being for all communities to thrive. Dr. Gonzalez is excited to share her experience of program management, community health, and advocacy in the classroom. She looks forward to meeting each student and joining them on their own journey of public health discovery.
