Biography

Amy Bryson Smith is Chair and Associate Professor of Music Business in Belmont University’s Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business. A Belmont alumna, she long hoped to return to her alma mater as a faculty member. Today, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music business, entertainment law, and related areas.

Smith has practiced corporate and entertainment law in Nashville for many years, representing individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations in both transactional and litigation matters. She has also served as a Rule 31 Mediator and as General Counsel for a national Christian nonprofit organization. Throughout her legal career, Smith has handled a wide range of matters in state and federal courts and has extensive experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on, as well as litigating, business and legal matters. Her academic scholarship has been published in a variety of business, music business, and Christian journals.

Smith is a member of the Leadership Music Class of 2025 and an inaugural member of the Nashville Entertainment and IP Law Inn of Court, part of the American Inns of Court.

Born and raised in Nashville, Smith has a deep love for the city and its music and entertainment community. Her husband, Jeffrey, also a Belmont graduate, is an author and pastor at Donelson First. They have two daughters, both of whom attend Belmont.  Amy loved her time as a student, and she absolutely loves being back at Belmont teaching!
