Adam Cartisano

Biography

I joined the faculty at Belmont University in 2023 after completing my BS/MS at Montclair State University and earning my PhD in Algebraic Geometry from Oklahoma State University.

In addition to being an educator, I see myself as a lifelong learner. I view mathematics as a beautiful lens through which we can explore and understand the world. I like to make math accessible to as many people as possible by blending it with art, history, and culture, in a way that goes beyond just applications and usefulness.

My research is in algebraic geometry, the study of solutions to systems of polynomial equations. Specifically, I study the geometry of algebraic surfaces that live in more than three spatial dimensions. I also love to study projective geometry, which extends some of the ideas of classical geometry to give us a more unified way to think about space and structure.

I also do a fair amount of recreational mathematics, whether it’s analyzing board games, solving challenging puzzles, creating math-inspired art pieces, or any other number of fun projects!
