Environmental Thinking for Architects

Acquire the necessary knowledge to navigate complex environmental issues in design and construction. Develop skills to integrate eco-consciousness into architectural solutions.

Why This Program?

Environmental concerns have long been a part of architectural practice, with the LEED rating system being an established aspect of the profession for many years. However, the urgency of climate change demands that architects go beyond conventional approaches. In response to the increasingly evident and pervasive effects of climate change, this course aims to equip architects with the necessary tools to confront and address unprecedented challenges in creating, maintaining, and utilizing the built environment.

Through this course, architects will build an intellectual toolkit that empowers them to face the complex challenges of environmental sustainability in the realm of architecture. Equipped with critical thinking skills, ethical awareness and innovative solutions, architects will be better prepared to create structures and spaces that contribute positively to both the natural environment and the well-being of the communities they serve.

What You'll Learn?

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Develop critical thinking skills for architects to tackle environment- and climate-related challenges
  • Provide architects with an intellectual toolkit for connecting big conceptual questions to the everyday problems you face in the office

Instructor Information

“Environmental issues infuse everything architects do, whether we realize it or not. This course will take you through what may be familiar terrain, like net-zero design and adaptive reuse, as well as what may be less familiar, like urban degrowth and learning to live with discomfort. I’m excited to explore these and other topics with you as you develop your own way of thinking environmentally as an architect.”
